Coffe pot with old lettering and sunflowers
Découpage paper can be applied whole or torn or also burnt along the edges to obtain an aged effect. In this example we have emphasised the aged effect with little spots of colour to imitate motheaten wear and tear.

What you need
metal coffee pot
découpage paper
acrylic colours (ivory, light green, warm yellow, brown and shadow)
découpage glue
large sponge brushes
flat paintbrush
drop paintbrush
stencil paintbrush
primer (an adherent product which facilitates the spreading on of colour on washable surfaces)
scissors
candle
opaque protective finish varnish spray

Step 1
With a large sponge brush spread on a uniform coat of primer(adherant) over all the surface and wait until it is completely dry.
Step 2
Blot the surface with the light acrylic colours creating shaded areas to create a blurred effect. To obtain this it is best to work quickly, dipping the sponge brush alternately in one and then the other colour.

Step 3
Cut out the shapes from the découpage paper, light the candle and, bring the flame to the edge of the the handwritten letter cutting, setting fire to the paper. Blow out the flame immediately to extinguish. Check the obtained effect and, if necessary, repeat.

Step 4
With a flat paintbrush, spread out a coat of glue over the surface of the coffee pot and put on the decorations.

Step 5
In case it is necessary to overlap the decorations, reapply the glue onto the paper just applied (a) and put on the new cutting (b). Put on a coat of glue over all the surface.

Step 6
With the damp drop paintbrush and the shadow paint create a shadowing around all the paper, lightening the colour towards the outside.

Step 7
Dip a stencil paintbrush in the diluted brown paint and, bringing near to the surface of the pot, splash tiny drops of colour over the surface in a random way.

Step 8
Protect your work with a coat of water finish protective varnish or a spray of opaque protective finish varnish.
